Ftl reddit11/12/2022 ![]() #Ftl reddit freeSo, I'd probably like this game a bit better if standard rewards could never give you a free weapon, and you had to do quests or save civilians for them - and in return whenever stores sold weapons the weapons section sold 4 or 5 weapons instead of just 3. There's a big difference between runs of the game where the game gives you 3 free weapons and runs where it gives you none at all. It isn't the end of the world if you have to do this on Hard, but it can really put your Engi B or Rock A runs far behind. #Ftl reddit upgradeIf you do have to buy a weapon at a store, you're behind on money, since you have to both buy the weapon and upgrade your weapons system. One of the main things I actually don't like about this game is how weapons drops work - in almost all circumstances you really want to find a free weapon from either a quest or some other event where one of the sub-options gives a weapon, or get a free weapon randomly from a surrender or a ship blowing up (this is a really low chance included in all "standard rewards"). What are some things you feel are 'too random'? Personally FTL does not qualify as overly random to me, it is just a very well designed game that baffles people who expect walks in the park. You can sit there and demand that a shop give you the weapon you want, and then cry about it in Sector 8 when you haven't seen it yet, or you can take what the shops give you and make a viable strategy out of that. If you risk a crew member to giant alien spiders, that is your own choice and your own fault if they should die, not because the game was "too random". You can always prepare by plotting your jumps through a sector, and since the flagship does not change, you always know how much you need to prepare for the final boss. Any 'bad' RNG can be overcome by fleeing a battle (ie when your Weapons gets hacked). Personally, I think all the things listed above allow for unique playthroughs, and the levels of random are healthy to keep even veteran players interested and engaged. There is some probability involved with attacks, but that is present in any game with miss/hit ratings. Store locations and inventories are random. The map and jump plots are randomly generated.Įvent locations and outcomes are randomly generated.Įnemies are randomly generated, and their targets for abilities are randomly chosen (Mind Control, Hacking). Maybe if people spent less time blaming luck and more time learning the game they wouldn't be so negative. Even after some other posters pointed out that people have gone 28-0 on Hard Mode, they were met with disbelief and a hackusation. This event is called "DISTRESS_ENGI_REBEL" in the datafiles. So this thread happened, where people flocked in droves to list FTL as one of the games they couldn't finish/play because it was "too random". They set off on their journey and you do the same. Engi can't feel fear, so they bear you no ill will when you explain you're unwilling to help.(if you already have this item, you receive 25 scrap instead) You provide them with all the munitions and supplies they should need for the journey home. They wouldn't get more than a few jumps with that load-out.Give them 40 scrap, 2 missiles and 2 fuel. They don't have much by way of supplies but they do offer a drone schematic for your use. They don't have any supplies or weapons to spare, but they do send over a self-teleporting med-bot disperser they hope they won't need. They take the next jump in their long journey home. The words they use are "Need = fulfilled", but you take it for gratitude. They're trying to outrun the rebels, and need all the help they can get. The Engi vessel turns out to be very poorly equipped - barely a runabout, really. You receive medium scrap with resources.( After killing enemy crew) The rebels destroyed, you pick the bones of their ship and wait for the small Engi ship to catch up.( After destroying enemy ship) The rebels destroyed, you pick the bones of their ship and wait for the small Engi ship to catch up.The distress signal originates at a small Engi ship under attack by a rebel fighter - but when they see Federation markings they turn to attack! The Long-Ranged Scanners will detect ship presence. ![]()
